Botox® and Dysport® are Health Canada-approved neurotoxins used to temporarily treat moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, lines between the eyebrows and forehead lines in adults. A combination of factors can cause facial lines including reduction of collagen and skin damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of persistent facial lines. Botox® and Dysport® work beneath the skin surface and temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes skin wrinkling, making them appear visibly smoother. Effects may begin within 24 to 48 hours, however maximum effect occurs in 2 weeks and lasts up to 3-6 months.
